Youthful Overvolunteers advocate for disadvantaged citizens in Đắk Lắk
The Vietnam Summer Camp 2025, a two-week event (July 13–26) organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has commenced in the picturesque province of Dak Lak, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. This year's camp brings together over 100 outstanding young Vietnamese from 31 countries and territories, including notable achievers in academics, sports, and the arts.
The camp's theme for 2025 is "Together we continue to write the story of peace," emphasizing national values such as peace, humanity, tolerance, and aspirations for development. The event is designed to bridge Vietnam’s history with its dynamic present, allowing participants to witness firsthand the country’s economic potential and progress, while deepening their cultural connection and strengthening ties with peers in Vietnam.
The opening ceremony took place on the evening of Wednesday in Dak Lak, marking the first time the event has been held in this province. The choice of location was significant, as Dak Lak holds historical significance—especially as the starting point for the 1975 Spring Victory—and boasts a rich ethnic culture.
Activities during the camp include cultural immersion, historical education, charitable and social engagement, and exchange and dialogue. In Dak Lak, participants have engaged in gong culture workshops, traditional music performances, highland folk songs, and visits to the World Coffee Museum. They have also taken part in ceremonial tributes, such as an incense offering at Ho Chi Minh Square, symbolizing respect for national leaders and history.
The camp also focuses on supporting disadvantaged communities, particularly ethnic minorities in Dak Lak. This is evident through charity activities, such as the gift presentation to 35 disadvantaged households in Tuor B village. Each gift was valued at VNĐ2 million (US$77), aiming to help the families overcome difficulties and improve their living conditions.
Nguyen Duc Choan, Vice Chairman of the Ea Na People's Committee, expressed his gratitude for the charitable work, considering it a chance to share love and support those in need. Ngô Thị Thanh Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the State Committee for OVs, considered the gift presentation an important activity of the Vietnam Summer Camp 2025.
The camp also serves to deepen the overseas youths' understanding of and connection with compatriots in Vietnam. Mai Thanh Long, a university student from the Czech Republic, who participated in the event, shared that he gained beautiful memories and developed deep affection for the people and land of the Central Highlands.
The Vietnam Summer Camp 2025 is a carefully curated, multi-regional program that aims to strengthen cultural and historical ties among overseas Vietnamese youth while promoting peace, development, and national unity. By focusing on Dak Lak, the camp brings international attention and direct support to disadvantaged ethnic communities, while offering participants a unique opportunity to witness Vietnam’s transformation and contribute to its future through cultural exchange, charity, and dialogue.
