New Town Hall in Obertshausen to Begin Construction in September 2026

After years of planning, the city of Obertshausen is set to begin construction on a new town hall in September 2026. The project, which aims to create a modern, sustainable, and citizen-friendly administrative centre, will be a significant development for the city.

The new town hall will be a four-story administration building with a gross floor area of 5,200 square meters. It will be built using a timber frame construction method, meeting the Passive House Solar Plus energy standard. This means the building will not only be energy-efficient but also environmentally friendly.

The new town hall will incorporate low-loss technology, Building Information Management (BIM), and Lean Construction methods. BIM will allow for efficient management of the building's data, while Lean Construction methods will ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.

The main facade of the new town hall will feature a foyer, meeting room, and a market place with a city balcony. A central square with green areas and individual trees will also be created as part of the overall project.

Mayor Manuel Friedrich stated, "The goal for the new town hall is to be sustainable, modern, and citizen-friendly for the coming decades." First councilor Michael Möser added, "A project like the town hall new construction is not started every day in a city administration."

The contract for the turnkey new construction was signed on July 9, 2021, with a contract volume of 23.7 million euros. The construction company awarded for the project is WOLFF & MÜLLER, collaborating with architectural firm Riehle Koeth.

During the construction period, administrative operations will continue in the existing building. The administration is expected to move into the new town hall by the end of 2027 or 2028. The completion of the overall project is planned for September 2028.

The new town hall will replace two no longer renovatable town halls. The reorganization of the town hall area allows for the combination of these two town halls and the replacement of the non-renovatable existing building with a future-oriented new building.

The new town hall will have an open face to the public, creating a new center in the city with a holistic design of the open spaces. The town hall new construction project marks the start of a new era for Obertshausen, providing a modern and sustainable administrative centre for the city's citizens.
