Weekly Event Showcasing Art, Dance, and Food Trucks to Debut in Lafayette
Starting this weekend, downtown Lafayette will introduce a new summer tradition: the Art Market in the Parklet. This free, family-friendly fair will take place every Sunday from May 18 to August 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at First Street & Golden Gate Way.
Organized by the local nonprofit, All Ages Recreation Downtown (AARD), this open-air event offers an eclectic mix of artisan marketplace, lawn games, line-dance lessons, live art demonstrations, food-truck fare, and sweet treats. Vendors, rotating throughout the season, will sell hand-crafted items, including hand-printed textiles and small-batch jams. Children can engage in craft stations or challenge friends to giant Jenga, while adults leisurely browse the vendors' booths or learn a few dance steps.
Admission and most activities are provided free of charge, courtesy of sponsorship from the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Lafayette Juniors, Princeton University's Pace Center for Civic Engagement, and other donors. AARD, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, accepts optional donations on-site; proceeds contribute towards building inclusive, all-abilities recreation spaces downtown.
Artists, makers, food trucks, and treat vendors can apply for Sunday slots through the form on allagesplay.org. Volunteers are needed each week for setup, kid-zone supervision, and clean-up; sign-ups are also available online. Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, reusable water bottles, and sunscreen.
The parklet, one block off Mt. Diablo Boulevard, provides limited street parking. However, organizers encourage attendees to walk, bike, or ride-share. Bike racks and a Lafayette Library restroom are conveniently located nearby.
