Urgent Call for Apparel Donations for Homeless Individuals
Homeless individuals in Berlin can expect to receive clothing donations during the upcoming summer campaign, with a focus on men’s clothing, hygiene articles, thin jackets, new underwear, and socks. The coordinated effort is led by Berlin's public transport company (BVG), the Johanniter, and the city mission.
According to Knut Guentzel, head of a Johanniter emergency shelter in Kreuzberg, the gratitude received from recipients is immense when they receive clean, well-preserved clothing. Life on the streets can take a severe toll on clothing, and limited resources for washing and clothing care apply to many homeless people.
The upcoming collection drive will take place at the U-Bahnhof Innsbrucker Platz on Monday, June 2, 2025, between 7:00 and 9:30 AM, and on Tuesday, June 3, between 3:30 and 5:30 PM. Further donation dates are planned at various U-Bahn stations throughout the week, but specific locations and additional dates have not yet been announced[1][2].
Donations are urgently needed, as the clothing bins are nearly empty[1]. More information about the campaign and future donation dates will likely be available soon.
Individuals who wish to contribute to the lifestyle of those in need can consider donating home-and-garden items, as the focus of the upcoming campaign is primarily on clothing and hygiene articles. The gratitude of recipients for clean, well-preserved clothing can be immense, as limited resources for washing and clothing care may apply to many homeless people.
