Urban Development Discourse in Saarlouis 2025, taking place at Gutenberg Square
In the heart of Saarlouis, Germany, the Day of Urban Development Promotion was held on the Gutenberg Square, attracting a crowd of locals and visitors alike. The event, organised on the occasion of the nationwide Day of Urban Development Promotion, was a city dialogue aimed at discussing and promoting urban development initiatives.
Mayor Carsten Quirin and Saarland Minister of the Interior, Building and Sport, Reinhold Jost, opened the event, setting the tone for a day filled with insightful discussions and exciting announcements. Mayor Quirin emphasized the importance of urban development promotion for improving the quality of life in neighbourhoods, while Minister Jost highlighted the diverse effects of such initiatives in Saarland.
Deputy Mayor Gerald Purucker presented central projects of urban development promotion, including the redesign of the Gutenberg Square. The redesign, which combines ecological responsibility with functional design, creates spaces that directly benefit the people in the city. The redesigned square offers a walkable city map, a guided tour, and even a symbolic handover of the funding decision for the energy-efficient renovation of the Vogelsang School, part of the Saarland school construction program BAUSETEIN.
Minister Reinhold Jost stated that the ultimate goal of urban development promotion is to preserve and further develop cities and communities as liveable and lovable places. He expressed pride in the achievements of Saarland's municipalities in this area and noted financial support for them.
The quarter management "on Tour," represented by Jessica Fischer and Dr. Viola Kirchner, provided information about ongoing projects. Contributions from the AG Klimastark on voluntary climate protection engagement were also part of the day's events.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for personal conversations with Mayor Carsten Quirin and Deputy Mayor Purucker during the Day of Urban Development Promotion, under the motto "Come and talk." The event concluded with a guided tour of the newly designed square, offering attendees a first-hand look at the fruits of urban development promotion in Saarlouis.
