UK construction company listed as initial participant in environmentally friendly evaluation program
Innes Smith, the current CEO of Springfield Properties, is steering the company towards a greener future. With a focus on opportunities in the north of Scotland, particularly energy security infrastructure and renewable development, Springfield Properties is making strategic shifts that are paying off.
Under Smith's leadership, the company has increased profits, reduced bank debt, and maintained progress on housing development projects. This success is not just financial; Springfield Properties is also leading the way in sustainable housebuilding.
The Springfield Group, which includes Springfield Properties, Springfield Partnerships, Dawn Homes, and others, has been praised for its commitment to sustainability. Last year, more than 30% of homes built by the group were delivered without gas, and over 60 developments have homes heated by air-source technology.
The group's focus on sustainability extends beyond its energy use. It is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and positively impacting the communities it builds in. This commitment is evident in its use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in its homebuilding, with 100% of homes built by the Springfield Group constructed from sustainable timber.
The Springfield Group's dedication to sustainability has not gone unnoticed. It was the first housebuilder to participate in the NextGeneration project, designed to benchmark sustainable practices across the sector. The group received recognition for its high performance in the NextGeneration Core initiative, a voluntary scheme aimed at encouraging housebuilders to improve their sustainable practices and be measured against the standards set by the Springfield Group.
NextGeneration, set up in 2006, initially assessed the largest 25 housebuilders in the UK, but has recently launched NextGeneration Core to encourage small businesses to benchmark their performance. The Springfield Group's focus on sustainability includes ensuring a positive legacy in the communities it builds, a value that Innes Smith, chief executive at Springfield Properties, holds dear.
"I value the lasting impact on customers, employees, and communities above awards and recognition," Smith said.
This year, housing companies in the UK are increasingly using sustainable materials and greener upgrades like solar panels and electric heat pumps. The Springfield Group continues to prioritize sustainability measures as its business grows, setting an example for the housebuilding industry.
