Tubô Cebu Art Fair 2025 conclusion marks legacy and communal triumph
Tubô Cebu Fair 2025 Concludes Successful Eighth Edition
After three days of celebration, the Tubô Cebu Fair 2025 has come to a close. The event, themed around 'Provenance,' aimed to bring people together to honor what has been built and to imagine what comes next in the world of art.
The fair, which took place at Ayala Center Cebu from August 29 to 31, saw a thriving gathering of artists, buyers, and art enthusiasts. Tubô, which started with just 30 participants in 2018, has grown into a significant platform that emphasizes accessibility and direct engagement between artists and buyers.
The founder and initiator of Tubô, artist Jepoy Janay, ensured that this year's fair was a memorable one. A special collection of works by Martino Abellana, the Dean of Cebuano Painters, was featured at the event. Abellana, along with Khriss Bajade, Gabi Nazareno, and John Villoria, were introduced to audiences through the unveiling of the 'Image of the Fair.'
These artists, along with several others, showcased their work without the intervention of galleries, allowing buyers to connect directly with the creators. The Tubô Cebu Fair 2025 highlighted that art is not just about objects on display, but also about relationships, memory, and exchange.
The fair reached wider audiences with the help of media partners Agimat, Keetaph, Art+ Magazine, MYTV, Cebu Daily News Digital, and PRWorks, Inc. On August 30, Writer's Block, a street art collective led by Nark, Noer, and Kane, created a live mural at Atua Midtown.
The Fresh Strokes Series opened the floor to rising Cebuano artists, featuring Maite Zuluaga, Subhelic, Densen Almeda, Puny, Marianne Guinto, and Roy Ingente. Prof. Raymund Fernandez and Prof. Palmy Pe-Tudtud moderated the sessions of the Fresh Strokes Series.
'Past Forward: Retracing a Provenance of Cebu's Contemporary Art' was a panel discussion led by Prof. Jay Nathan Jore during Tubô Talks, the closing event of the fair on August 31. Allen Arvin Tan, the Fair Director, paid tribute to the community that has sustained Tubô for nearly a decade.
Proceeds from the fair are channeled back into the Arts Council of Cebu's education programs. The August 29 opening featured the book launch of 'Si Jimsky ug ang Tanghaga sa Balay sa Balay sa Agta' by Josua Cabrera.
The Tubô Cebu Fair 2025 aimed to bring people together to honor what has been built and to imagine what comes next in the world of art. As it concludes, the impact of this event is sure to be felt for years to come.
