Transforming a Victorian structure into contemporary living spaces while embracing sustainability
Griffin Island Development Showcases Emerald Green Products' Innovative Solutions
Griffin Island, a once empty upper storey Victorian building in Newport's city centre, has been transformed into a block of 27 apartments, thanks to the expertise of Emerald Green Products Ltd and PPS Plastering.
The porous nature of lime-based products used in the project will provide a comfortable temperature all year round for the island's new occupants. This is a testament to Emerald Green Products' commitment to creating sustainable and energy-efficient solutions.
Simon Ayres, a company director at Emerald Green Products Ltd, is pleased with the Griffin Island development. He believes the project will create a healthy and durable building, with the lime-based products regulating excess moisture within the property and contributing to a healthy indoor air quality.
Glyn Phillips, owner of PPS Plastering, reported getting on well with the lime plaster and achieving an excellent finish. Phillips, who had not used Emerald Green's products before, found them to be much cheaper and quicker compared to traditional lime. He would use Emerald Green's products again and recommends them for healthy building construction.
The project presented plastering challenges due to the irregularly shaped rooms with varying angles, requiring a flexible product. Emerald Green's Solo was used for the thermal boards in the apartments, and Ultra was used for the oak Riven laths.
Retaining the character and historic fabric of the building was essential during the restoration process. Sustainable restoration was a priority for the developers, Kingfisher and Home Options Newport, who used healthy and traditional materials.
Emerald Green Products Ltd looks forward to seeing their products standing the test of time in the Griffin Island building. They express satisfaction with their contribution to the development and are confident that the Griffin Island project will serve as a shining example of their innovative solutions.
