Transformed portal to a different realm: artists reimagine entryway as an open-air garden
The Freilicht.Nord Garden in Innenstadt-Nord has unveiled a striking new entrance, a harmonious fusion of art, architecture, and nature. This innovative design, created by artists Hans Ostapenko and architect Viktor Prokhorov, serves as an inviting gateway that stands for openness and encounter.
The entrance, primarily made from repurposed steel parts, offers a unique blend of floral forms that complement the garden's aesthetic while providing an exciting contrast with the metallic material. The gate and small niche at Bleichmarsch 61 are always open for exploration, inviting visitors to delve into the charm of the garden.
Ulrich Göbel, a steelworker, and Simon Jost played crucial roles in the implementation of the new entrance's design. Their expertise in crafting the steel parts ensured a fragile yet sturdy connection between art, architecture, and nature.
In front of the recess, a bench has been thoughtfully placed, offering passersby a chance to take a break and appreciate the garden's beauty. The entrance also leads to an exhibition room in the associated 'Alter Kiosk' studio house, where visitors can learn about the creative process behind the new entrance's design.
The District Council of Innenstadt-Nord provided funds for the implementation of the new entrance, further highlighting their commitment to the garden's development. The project title for Freilicht.Nord is 'working voluntarily,' and support is always welcome.
