Transformed city facade becomes the grandest street art exhibit

Aachen, Germany - A 30-meter long street art installation is currently being realised in Adalbertstraße, aiming to strengthen the city center as a space for urban creativity and involve the creative scene in the design of the city. This exciting project, a collaboration between the Aachen City Management, the "Strong Adalbertstraße" initiative, and the real estate service provider Midstad, is set to make Aachen livelier and is an important concern for the mayor to promote.

The artists Michael Gerst, Alex Elsen, and Paul Sous alias Captain Nobbi are responsible for the theme and motifs of the street art design. This installation is a tribute to Aachen's unique characteristics, featuring symbols and stories typical of the city. The artists will complete the artwork on site and are open to spontaneous idea contributions from passersby.

The new design of the street art installation is expected to improve the shopping atmosphere in the area, according to city officials. The city manager, Kai Hennes, has expressed his appreciation for the project, stating it showcases Aachen's peculiarities on the city center's largest canvas. Mayor Sibylle Keupen has praised the artists' commitment and the potential of Aachen's cultural scene, emphasising that urban art is a defining part of Aachen's beautiful city center.

Michael Gerst describes the project as an opportunity to present Aachen's history and peculiarities on a large scale in a prominent location. Visitors can watch the street artists at work and see the artwork grow piece by piece. The completion of the artwork is planned for mid-July, but it may take longer due to weather conditions.

After the installation, the city, along with Midstad, will continue to work on the development of vacant properties behind the artistic facade. The ISA, a union of traders and owners in Adalbertstraße, has also expressed their appreciation for the project, expressing their pleasure with the initiative.

The street art scene in Aachen appears to be thriving, with examples such as a colorful pedestrian underpass in Richterich, designed by students, indicating a vibrant and creative community.
