Strohgäu Commune's Latest Attraction: Sports and Play Facilities Revamp in Hemmingen
Welcome to Hemmingen, where life just got a lot more active! In a flash, three fresh sports and play zones have sprung up, thanks to the hard work of the Gesang and Sports Association GSV Hemmingen and the dedicated Mayor Thomas Schäfer (CDU). From a newly minted grass pitch to a trendy Calisthenics facility, the area, now dubbed the Werner-Fuchs-Sportground, is buzzing with excitement.
Let's delve into the juicy details! The glistening new green pitch with floodlights has already hosted a jovial youth football tournament. The rejuvenation project cost a whopping 618,000 euros, a sum well worth it considering the dilapidated state of the previous pitch, as explained repeatedly by Mayor Schäfer. The June weather, however, played a pesky trick, leading to delays due to excessive rain.
Step aside, grass; there's a new kid on the block. The Calisthenics park, located near the Seedammhalle and tennis courts, was another much-anticipated addition. Families had petitioned for this outdoor fitness facility at the first youth forum during the tumultuous year of 2020, and now it's finally a reality, thanks to a generous 100,000 euro investment from the community.
But the celebration was nearly dampened, so to speak. A few hours before the grand unveiling, a seemingly mischievous prankster or group decided to set parts of a wooden hut ablaze. Firefighters swooped in to put out the flames quickly, fortunately minimizing the damage to a top case on a nearby parked BMW motorcycle. The Ditzingen police department is now accepting witness statements if you have any helpful information.
Speaking of water, families now have a brand-new water play area to cool off in the castle park. After a grand opening, little ones can splash around in the shade provided by the large, ancient trees.
