Neuss, Germany Prepares for Transformation of Former Racetrack into Citizens' Park

In a significant development for the city of Neuss, Germany, the organizing body, Landesgartenschau Neuss 2026 GmbH, has commenced activities with the aim of transforming the former gallop racetrack into a citizens' park. The park, planned to be easily accessible from all sides, will serve as a connection between the Rhine and the city center, inviting residents and visitors to year-round activities and relaxation.

The project is being undertaken in close collaboration with the "Green Heart - Neuss Citizens' Park" support association, and Norbert Grimbach, chairman of the nature conservation committee, continues to support the goal of designing the park. The nature conservation committee will provide expertise during the fine-tuning of the park's construction, ensuring that ecological aspects and biodiversity are respected during the transformation.

The common goal is to preserve large trees and valuable hedges wherever possible. After a joint on-site inspection, the number of trees that need to be felled will be determined, and discussions will occur about adjusting the planning to preserve trees in individual cases. Space for structures and new tree plantings must be created by clearing undergrowth and felling trees that cannot be preserved.

Annette Nothnagel, managing director of LAGA GmbH, emphasizes the commitment to keeping felling to the minimum necessary for the park's function. The habitats of bats and birds will not be affected during the construction process, as previously approved by the nature conservation committee.

The park's entrances will be built barrier-free, despite a significant height difference, ensuring accessibility for all. The organizing body's plans also involve the Landesgartenschau from April to October 2026, making it an exciting addition to Neuss's calendar of events.

However, without explicit information from available sources or official Neuss city communications, it is not possible to provide precise strategies or the exact role of the nature conservation committee for this project. For detailed, updated information, checking official Neuss municipality announcements or local environmental authority releases would be recommended.

The project aims to respect existing large trees and valuable hedges in the park, minimizing the felling of trees to ensure an eco-friendly transformation of the former racetrack. This citizens' park is also planned to support other forms of life, with consideration for the habitats of birds and bats during construction.
