"Television lottery funds acquisition of a cooling vehicle for a table in Offenbach"
The Offenbach Food Bank, a crucial lifeline for over 1,800 registered individuals in need, received a significant boost in February 2025. The German Television Lottery (Deutsche Fernsehlotterie) granted the food bank over 78,000 euros, marking a substantial contribution to the organisation's mission.
The grant was utilised in various ways, including the purchase of a new refrigerated transport vehicle, obtaining food vouchers, investing in energy-efficient refrigeration technology, and offsetting rising energy costs. The new vehicle, a significant highlight for the Offenbach Food Bank, is the first new vehicle they have ever acquired. It will make their tours more reliable and ensure the safety of volunteers on the roads.
This support is part of the German Television Lottery's larger efforts to aid social projects nationwide. As a significant source of funding for such initiatives in Germany and Hesse, the lottery's contributions to food banks, social welfare organisations, and community initiatives are instrumental in addressing poverty and social integration issues.
Stephan Masch, a representative of the German Television Lottery, expressed his delight at supporting the Offenbach Food Bank. He attributed this support to the trust placed in the social lottery by its players. Christine Sparr, the founder and first chairwoman of the Offenbach Food Bank, expressed her gratitude for the support.
The Offenbach Food Bank's work benefits over 6,000 people in the region. The food bank operates with the help of almost 50 volunteer helpers who pick up donated food daily from local sources and distribute it to the needy.
This is not a one-time occurrence for the Offenbach Food Bank. Over the past decade, the German Television Lottery has demonstrated a decade-long commitment to social projects in Hesse, with over 53 million euros flowing into such projects in the region. In fact, in 2024 alone, 28 projects in Hesse received around 5 million euros from the German Television Lottery.
As the Offenbach Food Bank faces challenges due to high demand and insufficient food donations, this timely support comes as a welcome relief. The waiting list for new customers continues to grow, and the number of people who, despite working, no longer have enough income to adequately provide for themselves and their families is increasing.

The grant from the German Television Lottery was also used to enhance the lifestyle of individuals assisted by the Offenbach Food Bank, supporting the purchase of food-and-drink vouchers for beneficiaries. To further improve the living conditions of these individuals, funds were also allocated for home-and-garden renovations, such as installing energy-efficient appliances and insulation, to reduce overall expenses and ensure a comfortable living environment.
