SommerLeseClub 2025: Over 330 Kids Engage with 2,624 Books in Successful Reading Initiative

The SommerLeseClub, a popular reading initiative, concluded its 19th edition with a well-attended event at the Old Town Hall. Over 330 participants borrowed a total of 2,624 books and audiobooks, demonstrating the programme's success.

The closing event was a vibrant affair, with a live comic artist, Charlotte Hofmann, captivating the audience by sketching a duck story. The most creative logbooks were recognised and awarded, with the winning teams receiving special reading Oscars designed by Hermann Josef Schnell. These Oscars, crafted by the local artist, added a touch of uniqueness to the awards.

The SommerLeseClub, which aims to foster a love for reading among children, saw over 1,000 Mendener schoolchildren participate. Before the summer holidays, they were informed about the programme. During the event, more than 100 children engaged in 11 creative workshops, collecting stamps as they explored various literary themes. Excerpts from the beautifully designed logbooks are currently on display in the children's library, allowing visitors to appreciate the participants' creativity.

The 19th SommerLeseClub was a resounding success, with over 330 children engaging with 2,624 books and audiobooks. The programme's impact was evident in the creativity displayed in the logbooks and the enthusiasm shown by the participants. Looking ahead, the 20th edition is set to take place in 2026 in the new building of the city library, promising another exciting chapter in the SommerLeseClub's story.
