Get ready for a rip-roaring good time! The Baroque city of Ludwigslust is set to host the next installment of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Day in 2027. After campus city Greifswald steals the show this year, Ludwigslust will come out swinging with its charming streets and welcoming people.
The gist of it is, all systems are go for Ludwigslust. State, district, and city officials have already held talks, and independent Mayor Stefan Pinnow announced the news with a grin. State President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) is all for it, praising Ludwigslust's vibrant transformation.
Ludwigslust, a cozy town of fewer than 12,000 folks, doesn't shirk from big events. The small town has hostilities in its blood, having already shown its mettle by hosting the state festival back in 2006, a spokesperson reveals.
Expecting up to 10,000 visitors for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Day? Piece of cake! The town's Little Festival in the Great Park, organized by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, sees up to 18,000 visitors each August. And let's not forget the State Hunting and Fishing Days on the castle square, which pull a crowd every autumn.
Ludwigslust plans to kick off its 150th city anniversary celebrations in grand style next year, with the west wing and the golden hall of the castle restored and reopened to the public. The city's entire Baroque layout will remain intact too, making Ludwigslust a living history book.
The first Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Day went down in Mühlensee in 2000. Since then, the event has taken place annually until 2006, and every two years since. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced cancellations in recent years. The last two were held in 2018 in Rostock and 2023 in Neubrandenburg.
This year, it's the ancient city of Greifswald's time to shine, with the theme of "Tradition, Innovation, Diversity." Over three days from June 20 to 22, the university city and Hanseatic town will showcase a slew of local institutions, associations, clubs, and cultural creators in various venues across the city.
The MV Day will coincide with the Bach Week and Fête de la Musique, making for an unparalleled cultural extravaganza. For the first time, the state sports games of the state sports association will also be held alongside the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Day. It's a sports fan's dream come true!
