Fauna Park in Solingen: Overcoming Challenges and Moving Forward

The Fauna Park in Solingen, Germany, is looking optimistically towards the future, bolstered by stable leadership, community support, and the exceptional dedication of its employees, volunteers, and veterinarians.

Linda Bunzenthal, the Zoological Director, and Tobias Rische, the Operational Manager, have expressed confidence in their ability to overcome the upcoming challenges. This confidence is well-founded, as the duo has navigated through a significant setback in 2024.

On May 21, the park faced significant damage due to a heavy storm, affecting mud, fences, paths, and sewer systems. Despite this tragedy, the Fauna Park's Species Conservation Day took place as planned on September 1, with local organizations such as NABU Solingen offering their support.

The storm temporarily closed the park, but swift help from supporters and donors enabled it to resume operations the next morning. The full restoration of the park took three months and was achieved through extensive fundraising campaigns and the involvement of local businesses.

The Gerd-Kaimer-Citizen Foundation and the Giossi Foundation provided essential support for the park's construction projects, which included the renovation of a 60-year-old pond, the opening of the dwarf otter facility, and the start of construction on a new washing bear facility.

As the park moves forward, Linda Bunzenthal and Tobias Rische would like to express their gratitude to all those who supported the park during the challenging year of 2024. For accurate and up-to-date details on Fauna Park’s 2024 activities, challenges, or restorations, it may be necessary to consult official Fauna Park Solingen communications, regional news archives, or local government announcements from Solingen. Environmental or wildlife conservation reports specific to the area would also provide valuable insights.

  1. In light of the Fauna Park's successful restoration after the 2024 storm, its focus on the future includes integrating environmental-science principles into the home-and-garden landscaping, creating a sustainable living example for park visitors.
  2. As environmental-science becomes increasingly important in the lifestyle of many communities, the Fauna Park could potentially expand its horizons to include educational programs on the impact of home-and-garden practices on the local wildlife, fostering a deeper connection between the park visitors and their surroundings.
