Rediscovered Designer of Molokov Island Transformation Project in Krasnoyarsk

In the heart of Siberia, Krasnoyarsk, a winning company has been chosen to oversee the ambitious project of revitalizing Moloaka Island. The company is OOO "Cooperative Project Workshop A-2," who triumphantly secured the contract for around 25.5 million rubles.

Now, the project workshop A2, who initially developed the revitalization concept in 2024, will create the actual project for execution. Slated to be completed by 2025, the Moloaka Island revamp aims to transform it into a destination that serves as a resort, museum, and water sports center.

Initiated by the Regional Tourist Information Center, the renovation project requires that finished documents be submitted by November 14, 2025.

According to plans, Moloaka Island will feature a Northern Exploration Park Museum, a glimpse into the history of polar aviation. The museum's centerpiece will be a Douglas airplane, salvaged from the Taigmyr tundra and currently being restored in Novosibirsk. The decision to build this museum on the island isn't unfounded — it was once home to a functioning seaplane base, with the remaining hangar being the only such structure remaining nationwide from the 1930s.

Moloaka Island derived its unique name from its previous moniker "The Cattle Island" (due to farmers sending livestock there for pasture), which was changed in 1934 to honor Vasily Moloakov, a pilot who had played a pivotal role in rescuing the Shmidt expedition and the Chelyuskin crew.

Redesign Vision

The revamp plans include clearing the island, demolishing ruins, and some structures. The seaplane base will be preserved, along with certain pavilions and the International Union of Water Motor Sports building. Plans are underway for a museum complex, waterfront hotel, restaurant, water sports club, floating museum, and a pedestrian bridge. The Douglas airplane will be housed in a glass pavilion over the water, providing a stunning view from the building's exterior.

The visitor center will be situated on a cape, with a viewing platform offering panoramic vistas of both shores and the nearby Tayшеv. A separate floating museum will be constructed on the southern coast, showcasing aircraft and vessels from the polar aviation fleet.

A restaurant with panoramic windows and a hotel will be built on the northern shore, while the pedestrian bridge will link the island with Ulitsa Parusnaya on the southern bank. An exciting thing to note is that the design for another major island within Krasnoyarsk — Tatisyhev — has been finalized as well.

Just a heads-up, my search for detailed development plans for Moloaka Island turned up nothing conclusive; there's a possibility that the spelling or name might be different. If you have more specifics, I'd be happy to help further!
