Redesigned Child's Play Area Labeling

In a creative twist to organise and personalise a modern kids playroom, a vinyl stencil and paint sign have been crafted using the compact Cricut Joy cutting machine. This project not only adds a touch of style to the play area but also serves as a functional label for a unique storage solution known as the 'Kid Cave'.

### Materials Needed: - Cricut Joy - Cricut Design Space App - Smart Vinyl (colour contrasting with paint and background) - Transfer Tape - Scraper Tool or Credit Card - Wood Plaque - Paint (matching the playroom theme) - Paintbrush - Command Picture Hanging Strips

### Steps:

1. **Design Your Sign** - Open the Cricut Design Space App and create a new project. - Type out your sign's text or add shapes/images to match your theme. - Adjust the size to fit your wood plaque.

2. **Cut the Vinyl** - Load the Smart Vinyl into the Cricut Joy and send the design to cut. - Ensure the vinyl is placed correctly on the machine mat.

3. **Weed the Vinyl** - Remove the excess vinyl from around your design using a weeding tool.

4. **Apply Transfer Tape** - Cover the design with transfer tape, using a scraper to burnish (press) the tape onto the vinyl. - Flip the design over and burnish the back to ensure it adheres well.

5. **Create the Sign** - Place the wood plaque on a flat surface. - Position the vinyl design over the plaque, using the transfer tape to apply it smoothly. - Start with a small area and use the scraper to burnish the vinyl onto the wood.

6. **Paint the Sign** - Once the vinyl is securely attached, paint over the entire plaque with your chosen colour. - Allow the paint to dry completely.

7. **Reveal the Design** - Gently peel off the vinyl to reveal the painted design underneath.

8. **Hang the Sign** - Attach the Command Picture Hanging Strips to the back of the plaque. - Hang the sign on the door of your kids’ playroom.

### Tips: - Ensure the wood plaque is clean and dry before applying the vinyl. - Use a steady hand when applying the transfer tape to avoid bubbles. - If using a complex design, consider layering smaller pieces of vinyl for easier application. - Next week, the Cricut Joy will be used to bring more organisation to a modern kids play room or under the stair storage closet turned modern play room. - The door to the kid cave is full-sized. - The ceiling of the kid cave declines as it goes under the stairs into the reading nook. - A sign was wanted to make it clear what was behind the kid cave door. - Painting is done after adhering the vinyl sign to the wood plaque. - The "The Kid Cave" sign is hung on the door with picture hanging strips. - Trimming and weeding of the vinyl is necessary after cutting. - The app prepares and cuts the vinyl label based on the design. - The font DIN 1451 was used for the sign, and all letters were in all caps. - The vinyl sign is adhered to the wood plaque using a scraper tool. - The project involved using the Cricut Design Space app to create the sign. - The vinyl letters are peeled off after the paint is fully dry. - For the kid cave sign, the letter spacing was 0.7. - The house does not have a play room, but has a large under the stairs storage closet called the "kid cave." - The sign was made using a Cricut Joy, Smart Vinyl in black, transfer tape, a scraper tool or credit card, paint, a paint brush, and Command picture hanging strips. - The letters for the sign were made a tad closer together with the "Edit" and "Letter Space" buttons. - Transfer tape is used to transfer the vinyl sign to a wood plaque. - The material used for the project is Smart Vinyl-removable.
