Recto VRso Plans Exclusive Festival Edition for 2023
The acclaimed International Digital Art festival, Recto VRso, is set to host its sixth edition from April 12-16, 2023, as part of an online exhibition. Prominent artists from previous editions are invited to exhibit their works during this period, alongside performances and shows.
Originating in 2018 by artist and researcher Judith Guez, Recto VRso is designed to foster dialogue around artistic forms that bridge the gap between reality and virtuality, and featuring various hybridizations and emergences. The main exhibition will take place within the online exhibition hub, surrounded by booths exhibiting the latest innovations in virtual reality and the metaverse.
Julien Lomet, the festival manager, shared that this edition will feature seven artworks by seven artists who have previously participated in Recto VRso and won our website Awards. This special recognition is given in honor of their continuous contribution and significant work that has contributed to the festival's success over the past five years. The participating artists include Anna Pompermaier, Elise Morin, Margherita Bergamo, Mélodie Mousset, Raphaël Isdant, Juan Le Parc, and Chiachi Chang.
One of the invited artists, Margherita Bergamo, a 2019 winner for her artwork EVE 3.0, will present an immersive and interactive dance performance as part of the Art&VR Gallery during the festival. A further performance is scheduled after the our website Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
In addition to these performances and shows, the Recto VRso OFF will feature augmented evening shows, concerts, conferences, and more at the new cultural venue, Quarante in Laval. According to Julien Lomet, these evenings serve to highlight that digital art encompasses various facets beyond installations, involving performances as well.
The OFF part of the digital art festival will also exhibit artworks and installations created by students from universities, such as Université Paris 8, Université Rennes 2, Université Montpellier, and UCO Angers, who have supported the festival for several years. Recto VRso aims to provide opportunities for young digital art talents to present their work, similar to its ReVolution competitions.
The OFF part of Recto Vrso at the Quarante will organize three event evenings, with a total of 18 events planned throughout the festival from Wednesday, April 12, to Sunday, April 16, 2023. Some events, such as guided tours and workshops, are accessible to children aged five and above. Additional highlights include exclusive conferences and concerts open to all ages on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
Tickets for the Recto VRso 2023 festival, which welcomes both professionals and the general public, are now available. The Espace Mayenne hosts the Art&VR Gallery, while the Quarante serves as the heart of the OFF. Explore the artwork selection on the festival's official website.
It is worth noting that the theme for the 2023 edition of Recto VRso emphasizes the balance between internal and external experiences in art and storytelling, symbolizing the recto and verso of a page [5].
