Weinheim Kerwe Celebrations Light Up Old Town

The Weinheim Kerwe, a traditional summer festival in Weinheim, Germany, has been a resounding success this year, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and offering a blend of historic town festivities and modern entertainment.

The festival's highlight, the Night of 1,000 Lights, took place on Sunday, transforming the townscape with an array of 5,000 candles and lanterns illuminating the Weinheim Castle Park. The event, as in previous years, created a vibrant nighttime atmosphere that proved to be a major draw for visitors.

The celebrations continued throughout the weekend, with people rejoicing in the Weinheim Old Town alleys, on the market square, in the castle courtyard, and park. The warm summer night added to the festive spirit, making the Kerwe particularly well received.

The Woinemer Kerwetag, the main day of the festival, took place on Monday. It featured traditional festivities, live music, food stalls, and various community events, providing locals and guests with ample opportunities to celebrate together.

Despite the large number of attendees, the festival went smoothly and peacefully, according to the fire department. The fire department and paramedics were constantly on duty during the Weinheim Kerwe, with around 50 patients being treated for circulation problems or minor injuries.

However, an unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday night, with a visitor being attacked on the market square. The perpetrator quickly let go of his victim due to the intervention of courageous passers-by, and the attacker escaped from the scene. The city's figures show that tens of thousands of people have attended the Weinheim Old Town Kerwe so far, and the organizers expect a total of 50,000 visitors by Monday evening.

Mayor Manuel Just (independent) will go on the traditional round tour with his mayor colleagues from the region at 4 p.m. on Monday. The record-breaking attendance at the Weinheim Old Town Kerwe is described as a preliminary balance.

The Weinheim Kerwe, the largest summer festival on the Bergstraße, has been a significant event in the region for many years, combining elements of history, culture, and modern entertainment to create a unique festival experience.

Home-and-garden decorations adorned the Weinheim Old Town alleys, filling the air with a festive scent during the Weinheim Kerwe, the largest summer festival on the Bergstraße. The lifestyle transformation of the townscape, with charming street lamps and vibrant banners, added to the allure of the traditional festivities, making the Kerwe an immersive experience for both locals and visitors.
