Berlin's cultural landscape is set to undergo a significant transformation with the arrival of Fotografiska Berlin, a contemporary photography museum and cultural centre, scheduled to open by the end of 2022. The museum will occupy the former Tacheles art house on Oranienburger Straße in Mitte, a building that has been repurposed for this exciting new venture.

The Am Tacheles project, encompassing the museum and a series of adjacent developments, will see the construction of ten new buildings. Seven of these will be high-quality residential buildings, while three will house office and business spaces. A total of 275 owner-occupied apartments and offices covering approximately 42,000 square metres will be created as part of this project.

In addition to the museum, the Am Tacheles project will also feature a restaurant, a retail space spanning an additional 12,000 square metres, and three office and business buildings on Friedrich- and Oranienburger Straße.

Fotografiska, a private Swedish photography museum founded by the Broman brothers, Jan and Per, has branches in Stockholm, New York, Tallinn, and soon Berlin. The museum aims to establish itself as an open cultural centre in the capital, offering internationally recognised photography exhibitions and a diverse cultural program.

The Am Tacheles project is not the only cultural development in the city. The Bauhaus Museum in Tiergarten is currently undergoing renovation and expansion, and the Forum on the Museum Island is gradually being unveiled.

The winning design for the Am Tacheles project was submitted by the renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron, known for their innovative and sustainable designs. The construction project is progressing rapidly, with the completion of the project expected by the end of next year.

As Berlin continues to evolve, the addition of Fotografiska Berlin promises to enrich the city's cultural scene, offering a unique and engaging experience for both locals and visitors alike.
