Passau's Housing Scene Booms: WGP Completes Sustainable Multi-Family Residence

Passau's housing scene receives a significant boost with WGP's completion of a multi-family residence at Fritz-Gerstl-Straße 16. The city continues its commitment to sustainable and affordable housing solutions.

The new residence, completed on 24.09.2025, offers eight self-financed apartments spread across two and three rooms. Each unit comes with a terrace or balcony, totaling 717 square meters of living space. Fourteen parking spaces, including an underground garage, cater to residents' needs.

WGP, the city's housing and property company, oversaw the construction and planning of this project. The building stands as a testament to Passau's dedication to eco-friendly practices, using a wooden hybrid construction method and meeting the KFN energy standard. It is equipped with a modern air heat pump and a photovoltaic system for sustainability.

The city's approach to housing development prioritizes inner development over outer expansion. This is evident in the 'local model' used for allocating building land in areas like Laimgrub II and Gǘtlbauerweg, ensuring affordability for young families. WGP has also constructed residential units in various streets across the city, including Vornholzstraße, Spitalhofstraße, and Frühlingstraße, demonstrating its commitment to meeting increasing housing demand.

The completion of the Fritz-Gerstl-Straße 16 residence, at a cost of approximately €3.5 million, marks a significant addition to Passau's housing stock. With a cold rent of €12.50 per square meter, it offers affordable living spaces while prioritizing sustainability and inner development.
