Modern Shadows: Exploring the Timeless Craft of Printmaking in Today's Art World

The art world in Gurugram, India, is abuzz with the opening of the "Original Shadows: Contemporary Expressions Across Mediums of Printmaking" exhibition at Art Incept. Running from July 17 to August 30, 2025, the show offers a captivating exploration of the aesthetic depth and intricate processes behind printmaking.

Located at Art Incept, 227, 2nd Floor, South Point Mall, Golf Course Road, the exhibition is open daily from 11 AM to 6:30 PM. The show is the brainchild of curators Rahul Kumar, an artist and writer, and Jasneet Singh Bindra, a printmaker and arts professional.

The exhibition features the work of 14 emerging and mid-career artists, including Aditi Singh Shekhawat, Anupama Dey, Manish Kumar, Isha Sharma, and Tushar Sahay. Visitors can expect to see a variety of traditional printmaking techniques on display, such as etching, woodcut, lithography, serigraphy, and mezzotint.

The showcase underscores the power of printmaking as a medium for personal expression and visual storytelling. Each work is the result of a meticulous, hands-on engagement with material, surface, and time, creating an atmosphere that invites a slower gaze, appreciating the layered nature of both the image and the making.

While historically associated with mass production, printmaking today offers a counterpoint to instant image culture. The artists featured in the exhibition explore the evolution of printmaking through traditional and experimental techniques, demonstrating how the medium can challenge and redefine contemporary art.

In addition to the art, viewers can explore explanations of various techniques and their historical contexts, demystifying the medium for first-time collectors, students, and curious observers. The exhibition aims to open doors to a new generation of viewers, teaching not just what contemporary art looks like, but how and why it is made.

On July 25, 2025, there is a special event at 4 PM, with a registration fee of ₹500, which is fully refundable upon attendance. The curatorial vision behind the show is guided by Rahul Kumar, known for mentoring emerging talent, and Jasneet Singh Bindra, a printmaker and arts professional with deep experience in printmaking practice and education.

Gayatri Singh, Director of Art Incept, states, "Each work is a testament to the artist's creative intuition, balanced with technical precision. We are thrilled to present this exhibition and believe it aligns with our mission of mentoring emerging talent."
