Headline: The Furth Michaelis Kirchweih Returns in 2025: A 10-Day Celebration of Culture, Food, and Fun
The historic city of Fürth in southern Germany is gearing up for the return of its largest street fair, the Michaelis Kirchweih, which will take place from October 3 to 15, 2025. This 10-day event, centred around the iconic St. Michael Church, promises to be a lively and vibrant celebration, attracting over 1.5 million visitors.
St. Michael Church and the Kirchweih's Origin
The Michaelis Kirchweih traces its roots back to the 12th century, when it was first held to celebrate the consecration of the St. Michael Church. Named after the archangel Michael, the church has been a significant part of Fürth's history and culture.
The 2025 Wedding Lottery
For couples who are planning to tie the knot in 2025, the city has a special treat. The 2025 Wedding Lottery is open to couples who live in Fürth, got married, plan to get married, or have a wedding date scheduled for 2025 before the Kirchweih. Couples who do not live in Fürth but got married or plan to get married in Fürth in 2025 are also eligible. The first three places in the lottery can win various prizes, including 500 euros in cash and a voucher for a ride in the Furth Balloon.
The Harvest Thanksgiving Parade
The festivities kick off with the Harvest Thanksgiving Parade on Sunday, October 12, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM. The parade route includes Herrnstraße, Schwabacher Straße, Max Straße, Friedrichstraße, Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße, Schwabacher Straße, Brandenburger Straße, Rathaus - Königsstraße, and Ufer-/Weiherstraße. The live broadcast of the parade will be on Bavarian Television from 12:00 to 14:00.
Food, Rides, and Entertainment
Throughout the Kirchweih, visitors can enjoy a variety of food and sweets from over 254 vendors, as well as shopping at the 90 traders. There will be seven large fairground rides, a traditional Ferris wheel, a bumper car ride, ten children's rides, and two walk-through attractions. Families can also enjoy ten game stalls, twelve throwing and shooting booths, and four lottery stands.
Cultural Significance and Expected Crowds
The Michaelis Kirchweih has been included in the Bavarian register of intangible cultural heritage. With such a rich history and the promise of a fun-filled event, it's no surprise that the Kirchweih is expected to attract large crowds.
