Martino Gamper Marks Nilufar Depot's 10th Anniversary With Live Design Intervention
Nilufar Depot in Milan marks its tenth anniversary with a lively intervention by Martino Gamper. The Austrian-Italian designer deconstructed and rebuilt iconic pieces by Franco Albini and Luigi Caccia Dominioni, creating a dynamic atmosphere in the usually serene gallery space.
Gamper's live-action intervention, part of a wider trend in design exhibitions, saw him dismantle and reassemble a wooden bed by Albini and a carved wooden chair with a vibrant purple velvet seat by Caccia Dominioni. He added small platforms to the chair and created a mosaic-like effect on the bed using offcut plywood veneers from Alpi.
The intervention was carried out by Gamper and artists Paride Vitale and Francesco Dette to celebrate Nilufar Depot's tenth anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, Nilufar is publishing 'Nilufar Depot: The First Decade', a retrospective volume featuring previously unseen installation images and essays by Annamaria Sbisà. Gamper and Nilufar have collaborated for over 18 years, making this intervention a significant part of their enduring partnership.
Nilufar Depot's tenth anniversary celebration concludes with Gamper's energetic intervention, disrupting the typical hushed gallery atmosphere with the sounds of whirring saws and sawdust. The retrospective volume, 'Nilufar Depot: The First Decade', offers a comprehensive look back at the gallery's first decade, marking a significant moment in Milan's design scene.
