It's a big splash! The reimagined aquarium tour at the historical Sea Museum in enchanting Stralsund is now open to the public. Two excited school classes, accompanied by Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD), were the first wave of visitors to marvel at the mesmerizing underwater world of spotted rays, sea turtles, and various aquatic creatures. 🐬🐠

Divers dipped into the expansive "Caribbean Reef" tank to champion the unveiling of the extended exhibition. With luminous flashlights, they greeted Schwesig and the other visitors on the other side of the magnificent 80 square meter pane. The impressive pane hails from Japan, showcasing the museum's intent to portray a genuine Caribbean reef from the surface to the deepest depths. The pane stretches an astonishing eight meters and houses the 800,000 liters of water within the tank. Made up of multiple individual pane elements, it weighs a mighty 60 tons. 🌊

The tour comprises 30 stunning new tanks and one renovated exhibit, according to the Sea Museum. Visitors will discover the breathtaking underwater landscapes of destinations like the Fiji Islands, Australia, and California. Take a dip in the cool Pacific waters of the kelp forest, where vibrant anemones and California horn sharks glide through. But don't worry - the Hawaiian tanks maintain a delightful 25-degree temperature for their marine inhabitants. 🐸🌺

The "Fiji Islands" tank transports you straight to the heart of the Fiji Islands with its white sandy shore and pebbly landscape. Swim alongside the museum's own family of spotted rays as you journey through the tour. And save the best for last - pay a visit to the elders: the beloved sea turtles, Frieda, Käthe, and Naila, who have been part of the museum family for years. 🐢

Recently returned from the Ozeaneum (another location of the German Sea Museum), the aquarium dwellers have made their way back to their original home. The construction expenses for this remarkable renovation were generously funded by the federal and state governments. With an impressive total of 51 million euros, the beautifully updated aquarium is now open for all to explore! 💦

By September, a grand finale will be held to commemorate the full completion of the project. Minister President Schwesig emphasized the significance of the Sea Museum, stating that it serves as a renowned tourist attraction and a mesmerizing cultural destination that brings people from around the globe. 🌏✨
