A nod to Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pope and a proud Chicagoland native, is making waves in the Windy City. Renowned eatery Portillo's has given one of its staple dishes a divine rebranding - the Italian Beef Sandwich is now fittingly named "The Leo."

For the entire month of May, Chicagoans and visitors alike can indulge in this scrumptious nod to the newly appointed head of the Catholic Church. Portillo's, known for its mouthwatering hot dogs and sandwiches, has baptized this dish in their signature savory gravy, and finished it off with a celestial trinity of peppers (sweet, hot, or a mix) - truly a treat for the taste buds.

In their Instagram post, Portillo's proclaimed, "In the name of the gravy, the bun, and hot giard...we introduce The Leo: a divinely seasoned Italian beef, bathed in gravy and crowned with the holy trinity of peppers." Food enthusiasts couldn't resist expressing their praise:

One satisfied diner wrote, "Had it last night. Delicious!" Another raved, "The most Chicago thing to ever Chicago!" Clearly, "The Leo" has stellar reviews.

With Pope Leo XIV being born on September 14th, 1955, in Chicago, this has been quite a hometown moment. The cardinal spent much of his life as a missionary in Peru, but his Chicago roots remain an essential part of his story.
