The Listening Stone in Bislich, a 600 kg boulder that tells a three-minute story about the Allied liberation efforts, has been set up to attract tourists and pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought to free Europe from Nazi occupation.
The Listening Stone is not Wesel's first; another one can be found in Büderich. This second Listening Stone, part of the Liberation Route Europe, was placed in Bislich due to its strategic importance during the final stages of World War II. The area around Bislich played a crucial role in the Allied crossing of the Rhine, a turning point towards the defeat of Nazi Germany.
The stone commemorates the fierce battles and liberation that took place around the Rhine crossings, shedding light on the efforts and sacrifices of the Allied troops. The Pieta on the Rhine dyke in Bislich is the third stop on this tour, with the Listening Stone located next to it. Scanning the QR code on the Listening Stone leads to an audio file that illuminates important events at the individual locations along the Liberation Route Europe. The Bislicher Heimatverein, specifically board member Wilhelm Kock, prepared the gravel bed and attached the information board to the Listening Stone.
