Saxony-Anhalt State Art Prize for Designer Rudolf Horn - Legendary Designer Rudolf Horn Honoured With Saxony-Anhalt Art Prize

Rudolf Horn, a renowned graphic designer born in 1929 in Waldheim, Saxony, has been honoured with the State of Saxony-Anhalt Art Prize for his remarkable lifetime achievements. The award, presented biennially since 1992, recognises exceptional contributions to art and design in the region.

Horn's journey in design began after completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He then pursued studies in design, which laid the foundation for his influential career. From 1968 to 1996, Horn lectured and taught as a professor at the University of Applied Sciences for Industrial Formgiving in Halle Burg Giebichenstein, shaping the next generation of designers.

The jury praised Horn's unique ability to balance design demands, scarcity economics, and DDR cultural policy in his work. His most celebrated creation, the modular furniture of the German Werkstätten, stands as a testament to his innovative approach and has become a milestone in design history.
