Lebensader Lux: Cologne's Luxemburger Straße Transforms into Green, Pedestrian-Friendly Oasis
The Lebensader Lux project is transforming Luxemburger Straße in Cologne. With a budget of 8,142,013 euros, it aims to create a greener, more attractive street with high stayability. The project, expected to complete in early 2027, involves reversing traffic flow on Severinusstraße for two months.
During construction, access to Severinusstraße via Luxemburger Straße will close. However, entry will be possible via Weidengasse and exit via Fritz-Räcke-Straße. Two-lane traffic will remain open between Bonnstraße and AOK-Straße. A new pipeline will connect wastewater from two tributaries of the Bonnstraße to the canal in Severinusstraße via a shaft structure.
The project includes building two roundabouts at intersections on Luxemburger Straße. The intermediate section will become a cycle street with a maximum speed of 30 km/h. Residents can apply for free connections for district heating and fiber optic during paving work.
The Lebensader Lux project is set to enhance Luxemburger Straße's livability and attractiveness. Upon completion in early 2027, it will offer a greener, more pedestrian-friendly space with improved infrastructure.
