Latvia's First Easy Language Books: Valters un Rapa Pioneers Inclusion
Valters un Rapa Book House is pioneering a new initiative in Latvia. It's publishing books in easy language, making high-quality literature accessible to all. The first fruit of this project, 'Stories in Easy Language', will be presented on June 18 at 15:00 at the book house in Riga.
This is a significant step for Latvian literature. For the first time, original Latvian works are being published in easy language. Until now, Latvian bookstores haven't offered such books for various target groups. The project aims to change this, ensuring everyone can enjoy and understand Latvian literature.
The 'Stories in Easy Language' collection is a result of the 'Easy to Read' competition, organised by the Institute of Latvian Language and the Easy Language Agency. The project has been supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation. While the concept of easy language has existed in Latvia for 25 years, it has lacked public awareness and resources until now.
Valters un Rapa Book House is setting a commendable example. By publishing books in easy language, it's breaking down barriers and making literature more inclusive. The presentation of 'Stories in Easy Language' on June 18 marks a notable milestone in this journey.
