Rough Trade, the renowned independent record label and retailer, has made a significant move by opening its biggest UK store yet in Liverpool. This new location, situated on Hanover Street, is not only the company's sixth nationwide store but also a testament to their commitment and investment in the UK market.

The Liverpool store, which opened its doors in April 2025, spans an impressive 6,500 square feet and includes its own dedicated venue space. This multifaceted cultural hub is set to become a hub for music, community, and even coffee, with collaborations like the one with Ditto Coffee already in the works.

In line with this expansion, Rough Trade has boosted its UK team, employing over 110 people. In August 2025, a £50,000 employee bonus fund was distributed, reflecting the company's strong sales and strategic success, including the Liverpool opening and other key milestones in 2024. This move underscores Rough Trade’s commitment to staff development and recognition of their contributions during this period of growth.

Lawrence Montgomery, the managing director at Rough Trade, expressed his excitement about the UK presence expansion in Liverpool, particularly because the new store is intended to honor and represent the city's rich musical heritage and vibrant music scene.

In addition to the Liverpool store, Rough Trade operates a flagship store in Berlin as part of their international portfolio. While details about the Berlin store's recent expansion or opening date are less emphasized, it remains a key part of their global presence.

Looking forward, Rough Trade is also set to open a flagship store in Berlin in Q2 of this year. Montgomery is eager to delight customers at the new Liverpool store and believes that this expansion will help increase Rough Trade's market share in the UK vinyl market.

The new Rough Trade store in Liverpool will feature a record store, a venue, a bar, and a cafe. In partnership with Signature Brew and Dark Arts, the store is set to offer an immersive experience for music lovers and coffee enthusiasts alike.

As part of the recruitment drive, Rough Trade Liverpool is currently seeking candidates for a series of positions, including general manager, assistant manager, bar and events manager, bar and events supervisor, retail supervisor, sales, and bar and events assistants.

With stores already in East, West and Central London, Bristol, and Nottingham, the Liverpool store marks another step in Rough Trade's expansion into the European market. The company is clearly committed to growing its presence and providing music lovers with unique, immersive experiences.
