Kia's Smart Home Solution, Powered by the Kia EV9 Vehicle

At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Kia America unveiled the Kia Connected Home, a two-story structure designed to showcase the benefits of living with an electric vehicle (EV). The centerpiece of the exhibit is the Kia EV9, a sleek and innovative electric vehicle that showcases Kia's commitment to sustainable mobility.

The EV9, when connected to the Wallbox Quasar 2, can facilitate bidirectional charging and act as a mobile power source. In the event of a power outage, the Quasar 2 can switch the direction of charging to draw power from the EV9 into the home. This innovative feature demonstrates the potential for EVs to become an essential part of our energy infrastructure.

Inside the Kia Connected Home, visitors can experience new in-vehicle technologies, including Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA-2) and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA-2). HDA-2 helps maintain a predetermined distance from the vehicle detected in front, keep the vehicle within detected lane markers on certain highways, and assist in lane changes under certain conditions. RSPA-2 allows remote parking in, or exiting from, certain parking spots with the driver operating the EV9 from outside the vehicle, as well as smart parking while the driver is inside the vehicle.

The Kia Connected Home also introduces the "10 Must-Have Items" that are essential to Kia's strategy for color, material, and finish (CMF). These items showcase Kia's commitment to using sustainable materials, such as bioplastic produced from biomass sources like vegetable oils, corn extract, sawdust, and sugarcane, and bio polyurethane as a replacement for animal-based leather.

Outside the Kia Connected Home, the Concept EV3, a compact crossover, is on display. The EV3 features a unique silhouette defined by a sloping roofline, disconnected C pillar that links the glasshouse surfaces with a floating roof effect, and robust squared wheel arches cut with asymmetrical angles. The Concept EV3 offers the technology, practicality, and design of the EV9 in a more compact package.

The Kia Connected Home also showcases the Concept EV4, an entirely new type of EV sedan. The Concept EV4 represents the purity of the "Power to Progress" pillar of the Opposites United design philosophy. The Concept PBV A, another innovation on display, utilizes an "Easy Swap" technology designed to meet diverse customer needs and enables a single vehicle chassis to serve various purposes with interchangeable modules connected to the base vehicle via a hybrid electromagnetic and mechanical coupling.

The Kia EV9, with its V2H capabilities, could unlock bidirectional charging for properly equipped homes in the future. The EV6, also on display, exhibits the benefits of V2L technology, enabling it to supply up to 1,900 watts of power to certain electrical appliances, devices, tools, or recreational equipment.

The Kia Connected Home utilizes a first-person perspective 3D video and a turntable for a seamless simulation experience. Visitors can take a virtual test drive in an actual EV9, experiencing the immersive test drive simulator first-hand.

Steven Center, the COO and EVP of Kia America, spoke at the presentation of the Kia Connected Home at CES 2024. The Kia Connected Home is a testament to Kia's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer-centric design. With the Kia Connected Home, Kia is redefining what it means to live with an electric vehicle.
