"Indeed, Pforzheim is thriving!"
Pforzheim, Germany - On Three Kings' Day, the Honorable Singing Society of 1501 Pforzheim held its 518th annual general meeting at the Congress Centre. Mayor Peter Boch, the city's mayor, was a guest speaker at the event and outlined his agenda for the city.
Mayor Boch's agenda, titled "Per Aspera ad Astra," focuses on several key areas. Central to his plans is the safety and cleanliness of the city, as well as addressing the pressing issue of urban development. Projects such as "Urban Development - East" are set to play a significant role in shaping the city's future.
In addition, Boch highlighted the importance of intermunicipal cooperation with communities around Pforzheim. He also emphasised the need for reducing business tax rates, which currently stand as the highest in the state. This move is intended to encourage economic growth and attract more businesses to the city.
The mayor sees potential for growth in Pforzheim's metal processing, precision engineering, watch and jewelry industry, and creative industries. He aims to open up 100 hectares of new commercial areas in the next four to five years to foster this growth.
Boch also addressed the challenges of putting the city's finances on a solid footing. His solution lies in a "prioritization of tasks" reflected in the city's next budget draft. He advocates for making digitalization part of Pforzheim's DNA, recognizing its importance in the modern world.
Claus Kuge, a member of the society, praised the society's role in Pforzheim's cultural life, stating that it occupies an attractive niche. In the past year, the society organized around 2,200 visitors for their cultural and social events, with an average of between 40 and 70 visitors attending each event.
The society's program included literary and art matinees, historical lectures, stumbling stone layings by artist Gunter Demnig, and trips such as a traditional ski trip, a summer trip to the Rhine, and a multi-day trip to the traces of the Reformation in Central Germany.
Mayor Boch, who became a member of the Honorable Singing Society on Three Kings' Day, expressed his appreciation for the society's role in the city's history and its continued contributions to Pforzheim's cultural life. The meeting saw around 150 of the society's 483 members in attendance.
The Honorable Singing Society, one of the oldest citizen initiatives in Germany, continues to play a vital role in shaping Pforzheim's cultural landscape and contributes to the city's rich history and tradition. With Mayor Boch's ambitious agenda, Pforzheim is poised for growth and development in the coming years.
