New Sustainable and Affordable Homes Completed in Lytchett Matravers, Dorset

A significant new development of over 20 sustainable and affordable homes has been completed in the picturesque village of Lytchett Matravers, Dorset. The project, a collaboration between Sovereign Housing Association and Drew Smith, a subsidiary of Vistry Partnerships, was supported by Dorset Council and funding from Homes England.

The development, located off Purbeck Road, offers a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as two, three, and four-bedroom houses for social rent, and nine two and three-bedroom houses for shared ownership. Residents are now moving into their new homes, which feature communal gardens for apartments and private gardens for houses.

Matt Crucefix, director of Development (South and West) at Stonewater, expressed his pleasure at providing affordable rural housing. He emphasized the need for such developments in villages like Lytchett Matravers, where affordable housing has been a pressing concern. Crucefix mentioned that Stonewater, Dorset Council, and developer Drew Smith worked together to bring the new homes to life.

The new homes boast energy-efficient features to help reduce bills and carbon emissions. Each home will benefit from low-carbon heating in the form of air-source heat pumps. The homes are also equipped with provision for electric car charging, reflecting the growing emphasis on sustainable transport solutions.

The development is part of Stonewater's strategic partnership with Guinness. Stonewater, an organization that recently received a gold accreditation for major environmental improvements, is celebrating the completion of this project. The new homes will undoubtedly contribute to the organisation's efforts to provide high-quality, affordable, and environmentally conscious developments.

The completion of the development was announced during the National Housing federation's Rural Housing Week and Net-Zero week, which took place from 3 July to 7 July. The new homes will provide vital new affordable homes for individuals and families who have been priced out of rural areas and villages.

Projects like Purbeck Road demonstrate how organizations can work together to provide sustainable and affordable housing solutions, supporting local communities in the process. The development in Lytchett Matravers is a testament to the success of such collaborations and the positive impact they can have on rural communities.
