Kalkar, Germany, is set to host its first-ever historical fair from August 22nd to 24th, marking a significant change in the city's event landscape. The fair, which will take place in the city's market square, will offer over a dozen fairground rides and show booths, promising an exciting and nostalgic experience for visitors.

Mayor Britta Schulz has been a vocal advocate for this change, campaigning for a more innovative and engaging fair format. The city administration, with Harald Münzner, responsible for culture and tourism at the city of Kalkar, on board, the historical fair is set to become the first event of the tourism and culture promotion fund in Kalkar.

Ticket prices for the rides have been capped at a maximum of 2.50 euros per ride, ensuring affordability for all. In contrast to the usual event format in Kalkar, which had become outdated, this historical fair promises a fresh and captivating experience.

The fair will officially open on Friday at 5 pm, with rides and booths operating from 2 pm on Friday, 12 pm on Saturday, and 11 am on Sunday. Among the attractions will be a 99-year-old caterpillar train, a carousel of wooden horses, a Ferris wheel, and other classic fairground rides.

Peter Buchholz, from the Historical Society of German Showmen, is coordinating the fair and operates the caterpillar in its third generation. Buchholz's rides are known for their technical flawlessness, regular testing, and aesthetically pleasing designs, promising to enchant guests at the historical fair in Kalkar.

It is worth noting that this historical fair in its current format is new to Kalkar and the region. While Kalkar is known for occasional fairs and events, there is no widely known annual historical fair specifically scheduled for the last weekend of summer holidays with consistent ride pricing publicly available.

Visitors can look forward to an immersive and authentic historical fair experience in Kalkar this August. For more details and updates on the fair, we recommend checking the local tourism or city event websites closer to the event date. The historical fair in Kalkar will not be repeated in its current format in Kleve and the surrounding area.
