Appleby Castle, a historic gem in Cumbria, England, is set to go under the hammer on October 30. The castle, with a guide price of £5.5 million, is currently used as a versatile events space and is considered suitable for the hit TV show, The Traitors. It boasts 22 bedrooms, numerous period interiors, and extensive grounds.
The castle's rich history dates back to Roman times, with notable owners including Henry II, Richard the Lionheart, Richard II, and Lady Anne Clifford. Today, it hosts a variety of events, from weddings and conferences to classic car rallies and battle re-enactments. The castle's interiors feature four-poster beds, big fires, wooden panels, and exposed brick or stone walls, offering a unique blend of history and comfort.
Spread over 25 acres of parkland, the castle offers a range of amenities, including two 'great halls', a commercial kitchen, library, billiard room, gym/spa, wine cellar, fishing rights on the River Eden, a tennis court, and a bee house.
