Grocery company Edeka establishes itself in Salzgitter!
The city of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt is set to welcome a new addition to its retail landscape as Edeka, a renowned German supermarket chain, opens its doors to a brand-new store on August 7th, 2025, at 7 am. The new EDEKA Center will be located on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, where the former Real market once stood [1].
This expansion marks a strategic move by Edeka, as they seize the opportunity to take over the vacant Real market space. Christian Mosler, Managing Director of EDEKA Minden-Hannover, expressed his excitement, stating that it was only a matter of time before Edeka secured the space in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt [2].
The new EDEKA Center promises to bring a fresh shopping experience to local customers, with a comprehensive range of products including food, a bakery with a catering section, service areas, a fish department, sausages, meat, and more [1]. In contrast to the former Real market, the new EDEKA store will offer fresh fish for self-service initially [3].
The store will commence operations with three service days for the fish department, and may expand based on sales [4]. The new EDEKA Center is also expected to employ 85 people, contributing positively to the local job market [5].
Prior to the opening of the new store, residents in Salzgitter had to resort to competitors or travel to Wolfsburg for Edeka products [6]. The arrival of the new store is expected to enhance local market competition, revitalizing the former Real market site and providing comprehensive retail options for the community [1][2].
The new EDEKA Center is an exceptional addition to Salzgitter as it offers a fish department, a feature not commonly found in the city [7]. For weekly offers, recipes, and more details on services typical in EDEKA stores, customers can refer to the official EDEKA website [8].
This significant investment by Edeka is part of broader redevelopment activities in Salzgitter, including industrial and logistics real estate, suggesting an overall positive economic impact for the location [2]. The success of the existing Edeka store in Bad, along with their successful stores in Goslar, Braunschweig, and Wolfsburg, bodes well for the new EDEKA Center in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt.
