Tomsk's Anticipated Art Festival Breaks Records!
Expecting 20,000 attendees at the "TOM" festival in TGU
Get ready Tomskers, or visitors from Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, and other city neighbors, for the third annual art and literature festival, Tomsk III (0+), happening from May 15-18! This year, organizers hope to break records with a whopping 20,000 attendees. That's double the number from last year!
Natalia Pochtareva, head of the Siberian branch of the State Museum of fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin, announced this exciting development at a press conference yesterday at the RIA Tomsk media center. In previous years, attendance numbers were around 5,000 (first festival) and 8,000 (second festival), with a surprising increase to over 15,000 last year. So, let's aim high this year and expect the crowd to be 20,000 strong!
According to Julia Emer, deputy rector for information policy and digital communications at Tomsk State University (TSU), organizers expect the interest in the festival to extend beyond Tomsk locals. "I think every Tomsk resident should 'bring a friend' from another city," she said.
As for the festivities themselves, Pochtareva shared that this year's program will be extensive. A few highlights include lectures from staff members of the State Museum of fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin, such as deputy director Ilya Doronchenkov and specialist in binding Anna Markova. Other fascinating talks will come from Tomsk experts on cinema, architecture, and the written word.
Emer mentioned that for the first time, a concert titled "Gogol in Music: Selected Works" will take place during the festival (6+). This special concert by the Tomsk Academic Symphony Orchestra promises an unique format intended to pique listeners' interest in reading. The event is free, and registration is required. It will take place immediately after the plenary discussion on May 15 at 7 PM in the TSU auditorium.
Though specific information about Tomsk III isn't easily found online, you can expect a rich mix of art, literature, and music in this beloved city. Keep an eye on TSU's website for announcements and further updates about this year's festival!
