Designer Outlet Berlin Expands and Welcomes New Stores Under Frey's Ownership

The Designer Outlet Berlin, a popular shopping destination for fashion enthusiasts, has undergone some changes following its acquisition by Frey in May 2025. The outlet, located near Potsdam in western Berlin, continues to be the only premium outlet in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and Germany’s second-ranked outlet by ECOSTRA benchmark, attracting 2.7 million visitors annually with popular brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Adidas, and Tommy Hilfiger.

The acquisition by Frey, a leading provider of open-air shopping centers in Europe, marks a strategic step to strengthen Frey's market position. The price for the Designer Outlet Berlin was 230 million euros.

While there is no detailed public information about new store openings or expansions at the center itself, the range at the Designer Outlet Berlin has been expanded. Scandinavian men's fashion brand Only & Sons has already opened its doors on May 8, and abro, a brand specializing in handbags and accessories, is now available. A pop-up store for women's fashion, Marc Aurel, will find a place in the center soon.

In addition, a new grill pavilion has been opened, offering not only traditional currywurst with fries but also new combinations such as currywurst with champagne and Aperol Spritz.

Many established stores of well-known brands will be retained at the Designer Outlet Berlin, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, UGG, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, and Levi's.

Regarding transportation to Designer Outlet Berlin, no specific transportation enhancements or modifications linked to Frey’s ownership have been reported. However, the new line 662 will transport customers to the Designer Outlet Berlin every hour from Monday to Friday, 6 am to 7 pm, and on Saturdays, 10 am to 7 pm. A new connection to Designer Outlet Berlin will be established from Krampnitz in Potsdam from August 4th, with the new line 662 providing a 20-minute interval during peak times when combined with line 609 with transfer in Campus Jungfernsee.

The Designer Outlet Berlin ranks 21st in Europe and 2nd in Germany in a ranking of the performance of outlet locations. Frey’s expansion focus includes other projects, such as the Malmö Designer Village in Scandinavia under development with 90 stores planned in the first phase, indicating Frey’s broader growth but not immediate changes at Designer Outlet Berlin. Frey’s acquisition will primarily contribute via rental income starting the second semester of 2025 and helps offset some group-wide rental declines.

The Designer Outlet Berlin's expansion under Frey's ownership now includes new stores such as the Scandinavian men's fashion brand Only & Sons and abro, a handbag and accessories specialist. A pop-up store for women's fashion, Marc Aurel, is also expected to join the center soon, further enhancing the home-and-garden and lifestyle shopping experience at the Designer Outlet Berlin.
