Exhibit: Dolphins fetch substantial amounts at auction, generating high sales figures
The Dolphin Discovery Trail, a unique fundraising initiative, has successfully surpassed its target, with total funds raised now exceeding £80,000. The auction, which took place recently, saw 62 bids being made, with pre-bids totaling more than 36.
John Randall, in charge of selling the statues for the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey, oversaw the event. The auction raised more than £40,000 on the night, with the highest bid of the evening being £1,600 for a statue named Fairytale, sponsored by TISE and painted by Dom Ogier-Keltie. Another notable sale was Hermia, sponsored by Herm Island and decorated by India Waterhouse, which sold for £1,250.
Steve Byrne of the animal welfare charity and Andrew Sparkes of Autism Guernsey assisted during the auction and raffle. Volunteers from the Guernsey Freemasons and Artex Guernsey team helped with the logistics of moving the statues for the auction. The 62 dolphin statues were sponsored by local businesses or groups, but the specific names of these companies or groups are not provided in the available information.
The statues are now available for collection at the Peninsula Hotel, with Steve Byrne on-site from 10:00 to assist. For those unable to collect in person, the GSPCA offers a delivery service for a minimum donation of £30, with the donation contributing to the total raised by the Dolphin Discovery Trail.
It's worth noting that most of the 62 dolphins sold for more than their asking price of £500, demonstrating the strong support for these worthy causes. The funds raised will go towards supporting the GSPCA's work in animal welfare and Autism Guernsey's efforts in providing assistance to those affected by autism.
This successful event is a testament to the generosity of the local community and the creativity of the artists who decorated the dolphin statues. The Dolphin Discovery Trail has not only provided a unique and engaging way to raise funds but also created a lasting symbol of the community's support for these important causes.
