Event at Ekya School Byrathi Promotes Cross-Cultural Understanding and Innovation through Japan Festival
The India & Japan Children's Mural Project was the highlight of the recent Japan Festival-Kala Kabe, an event that celebrated art, tradition, and collaboration between the two nations. Held at Ekya School Byrathi on August 11, 2025, this festival was organised by Miho Sakata Malhan, Founder of Muse Creation, Bengaluru.
The centerpiece of the event was a collaborative mural created by students from Ekya School, CMR National Public School (NPS), and Japanese students, directed by the renowned Japanese mural artist Teiko Nishimori, founder of ICFA Japan. This was Teiko Nishimori's very first mural in India, making it especially significant.
The mural, symbolizing cultural exchange and friendship between India and Japan, reflects themes of nature, culture, history, nostalgia, and the future of both countries. It embodies the collaboration and friendship of the participating students.
Teiko Nishimori, with over 45 years of experience leading large-scale mural projects worldwide, engages children in creative discussions to co-create vibrant, meaningful art centered around friendship, peace, and the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and nature.
The mural was unveiled by Hokuto Kaya, Consul-General of Japan in Bengaluru, in the presence of dignitaries from CMR Group of Institutions and Ekya Schools. The project is also associated with the Japan Manth initiative by the Japanese Consulate in India.
The festival included enriching activities such as performances, workshops on Origami and Haiku, a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, and art displays by students. Attendees were inspired by the power of collaboration and cultural exchange.
The Muse Charity Bazaar presented sustainable products and gourmet treats at the festival. The event was a testament to how art and education can transcend boundaries, fostering creativity and building bridges between cultures.
Video recordings of the event and project highlights are available on YouTube, showcasing the mural and the collaborative creative process. For more information, visit Ekya Schools. Teiko Nishimori expressed hope for continuing the friendship and creating more art together in the future. Miho Sakata Malhan remarked that the mural reflects the nature, culture, history, nostalgia, and future of Japan and India.
