The Heimat-Preis 2025: Honouring Civic Engagement in Detmold

The Heimat-Preis, an award that celebrates projects, actions, or contributions benefiting the local community in Detmold, is now accepting applications for the 2025 edition.

This prestigious award, initiated by the Ministry of Home, Municipalities, Building and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, has been a beacon of recognition for volunteer work since 2019. The Heimat-Preis in Detmold has become an established way to highlight volunteer work that strengthens local communities with passion and creativity.

Projects that strengthen community spirit, preserve cultural heritage, promote diversity, enhance public spaces, or pursue innovative approaches in areas such as digitalization and sustainable mobility will be considered. Previous winners have been honoured for projects like preserving public parks, promoting social cohesion, sustainable thinking and action, and a regular breakfast program for single individuals.

Direct applications are not the only option - third-party suggestions that highlight outstanding engagement by others are also explicitly welcome. If you know someone who deserves recognition for their contributions to the community, this is your chance to nominate them.

Applications can be submitted by post or email. Postal submissions should be addressed to Nora Moos and Kathrin Prill at the Volunteer Office in the Town Hall. For email submissions, send your application to ehrenamt@our website. The application criteria and application form for the Heimat-Preis 2025 can be found on the "Heimat-Preis" subpage.

The jury for the 2025 Heimatpreis in Mönchengladbach consists of Mayor Felix Heinrichs, Frank Eibenberger (CDU), Tim Theuerzeit (SPD), Marcel Klotz (Alliance 90/The Greens), Natascha Stephan (FDP), Torben Schultz (The Left), and Corina Bülow (Alliance Germany).

The award will be presented by the council of the city portal. The prize for the Heimat-Preis is up to €5,000. All submissions will be evaluated by an internal administrative jury from mid-August.

The Heimat-Preis aims to honour civic engagement that strengthens local communities with passion and creativity. If you know someone who fits this description, don't hesitate to apply or nominate them. The deadline for applications and suggestions is August 15th, 2025.
