City administrators approve and finance the establishment of six additional mobility hubs, marking the initial phase of a projected 18-hub network in the city. These new hubs are slated for development in districts Pempelfort, Derendorf, and Golzheim by 2026.

Beginning in July 2024, six mobility stations will be constructed in Pempelfort at the locations of Bankstraße, Kunstakademie, Maria-und-Josef-Otten-Platz, Münsterplatz, Schinkelstraße, and Schloßstraße. These stations are slated for operation by January 2025. The initiative aims to enhance mobility in central residential areas, with a focus on providing sustainable transportation options.

Jochen Kral, the city's environment commissioner, commented, "Our goal is to offer more environmentally friendly and flexible mobility solutions for individuals." This encompasses bicycle-sharing, E-scooter-sharing, and car-sharing programs. Modern, digitally connected bicycle parking facilities will also be introduces, ensuring secure and comfortable bicycle parking within the residential area.

Katharina Metzker, head of the traffic management department, elaborated, "Mobility stations have demonstrated the increased importance of car-sharing in daily life, the improved parking security of private bicycles, the elimination of rental micro-mobility device congestion, and the introduction of new E-cargo bike rental offers." Additionally, intermodal networking at public transport hubs has been optimized, and awareness of the municipal multi-modal app "Redy" has been boosted.

Twelve more stations are planned for Pempelfort, Derendorf, and Golzheim, with decisions regarding their construction to be made in the political bodies separately. The stations for phase 2, starting in 2025, include Pfalzstraße, Gneisenaustraße, Tußmannstraße, Scheibenstraße, Rosenstraße, and Rochusstraße, with a scheduled completion in January 2026. Phase 3, commencing in 2026, will see the construction of stations at Golzheimer Platz, Saarbrücken Straße, Tannenstraße, Rolandstraße, Römerstraße, and Alter Schlachthof, with completion in December 2026.

In related news, a high-capacity hydrogen refueling station recently entered operation in Düsseldorf, boosting the city's efforts towards carbon neutrality by 2035. However, it is not explicitly tied to any specific district within the city. Furthermore, the nearby Leverkusen area is transitioning to zero-emission buses, with deliveries of new electric buses scheduled between April and August 2025. This project, though related, is a separate regional initiative and not directly connected to the mobility station construction project in Düsseldorf.

  1. The mobility stations in Pempelfort, constructed for sustainable transportation, will incorporate car-sharing, bicycle-sharing, and E-scooter-sharing programs.
  2. In addition to the mobility stations, modern, digitally connected bicycle parking facilities will be introduced, offering secure and comfortable parking solutions for bicycles.
  3. Environmental-science initiatives in Pempelfort aim to foster a lifestyle that embraces sustainable living and home-and-garden practices, as demonstrated by the increased focus on environmentally friendly transportation options.
  4. Finance and industry sectors can benefit from these mobility initiatives due to the potential reduction in private vehicle ownership and the growth of E-cargo bike rental offers, promoting a greener economy.
  5. The hydrogen refueling station in Düsseldorf and the transition to zero-emission buses in Leverkusen further boost the region's efforts towards environmental protection and achieving carbon neutrality.
