Spruce Up Your Garden with an Easy Lattice Trellis 🌱🧱

Effortless DIY Lattice Structure for Vertical Plant Growth

Yo, let's talk about climbers, man. They're like the rockstars of the plant world, adding texture, color, and that little something extra to your garden. But as much as we love our wild clematis, sometimes it needs a little help to stand tall and proud. Enter our latest creation: an easy lattice trellis, perfect for your climbing plants.

Climbing Plants: The Runaway Vines 🌱🐾

Remember our old clematis by the east wall? Every year it seemed to bust out of its trellis, eventually going completely rogue. We didn't want to shell out money on a fancy, tall, and complicated trellis, so we decided to DIY a simple and affordable solution using a leftover piece of lattice from a previous project. You can use any type of lattice for this (and other) projects, just make sure it's sturdy enough to support your vines.

Building Your Lattice Trellis: Tools & Materials 🧱⚒️

Our lattice trellis was oh-so-easy to build. All we used were some 2x4s, 3-inch pieces, a drill, screws, and wood spacers. For good measure, we added a laser level to keep it all straight and looking sharp. If you've got vinyl siding, you'll need longer screws to reach the support wood underneath.

We attached the wood spacers first and then locked in the lattice, securing it with wood screws. Make sure you space the lattice a few inches from the wall for air circulation and plenty of room for your plants to climb.

Giving Them a Helping Hand 🧋👨‍🌽

Climbing plants are intense, ma, and sometimes need a bit of assistance to stay in place. Since our trellis went up as our old clematis went wild, we used clips to help the plant find its way. Next year, the clematis should be able to climb without a hitch.

If you've got other climbing plants like ornamental sweet peas, scarlet runner beans, or morning glory, they'll love this easy lattice trellis. What's your fave climber? Share it with us and show off your gardening skills!
