Efficient Composting Methods for Smaller Scale Agriculture Operations

Drum Composting

Underground Composting

Sheet or Lasagna Composting
Layering carbon-rich "brown" materials (cardboard, dried leaves) with nitrogen-rich "green" materials (grass clippings, kitchen scraps) directly on garden beds creates a no-dig composting layer. It suppresses weeds, conserves moisture, and gradually builds fertile soil [4].
An additional technique includes making liquid compost or compost extract by mixing compost with water, which can be applied as a nutrient-rich foliar spray or soil drench, enhancing plant growth and microbial activity [3].
