In today's fast-paced world, life grows increasingly busy, chaotic, and cacophonous. This is mirrored in the movies now playing in theaters.

Dusseldorf: A Mute Movie Remolds Public Perception

In the rapidly unfolding world, where life accelerates and noise proliferates, a unique contrarian approach is emerging in the realm of filmmaking. Wolfgang Keuter and Gianni Sarto, members of the artistic collective and leading figures at Theaterlabor Traumgesicht association, endeavor to find serenity amid the chaos. Their latest video production, "Düsseldorf in the Moment," features 21 local residents remaining silent on camera for five minutes.

Filming individuals of various ages, shapes, and nationalities, Sarto reveals that reactions varied noticeably. Some found the duration arduous, while others were taken aback by the brevity of the recording. The experiment, the artists concede, challenges viewers much like the silent participants. However, Keuter emphasizes the value inherent in this challenge.

As viewers delve into the human portraits, their awareness shifts from superficial observations to appreciating the beauty and complexity of the human form. Obliterating distinctions based on prejudices, attractiveness, or age, the silent subjects invigorate a deep contemplation and the revelation of the inner self. Keuter posits that silence fosters an enriching experience, promoting relaxation, recovery, and self-discovery.

Evidently, most of the participants felt rejuvenated following their silent encounter, reinforcing the positive impact of silence. Keuter and Sarto plan to continue this series, with upcoming productions featuring Garath residents and another project in Düsseldorf. Stephan Keller, the Mayor, has already expressed interest in participating in the subsequent projects.

Curious viewers can catch "Düsseldorf in the Moment" on Wednesday, October 25, and December 20, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the Theaterlabor Traumgesicht, Georg-Glock-Str. 15. Tickets cost €15 for adults, and €7.50 for students/scholars, which includes soft drinks. Registration via the internet is required.

As the search for this video in major platforms and film festival records yielded no results up to 2023, viewers may consult video platforms such as Vimeo, YouTube, or UbuWeb, or local art institutions' websites for possible showings. The artists encourage those interested to reach out to them directly via their official websites or social media handles for updates.

In the realm of home-and-garden, one might find solace similar to the serenity discovered by Keuter and Sarto in their filmmaking endeavors. This could translate into a sustainable-living approach, where slowing down, listening, and observing encourages self-discovery, much like the silent subjects in their video production.
