Downtown Fresno's 'Naomi's House' remains a secure sanctuary for females
In the heart of Downtown Fresno, off F Street, a new beacon of hope for underserved women facing homelessness has emerged. Naomi's House, a recently renovated transitional housing facility, has opened its doors, providing 34 beds for women in need.
The transformation of Naomi's House was a collaborative effort between two long-standing organisations, the Poverello House and St. Agnes Medical Center. With an investment that has resulted in 30 new units, Naomi's House now stands as a revitalised space, ready to make a difference in the lives of women in Fresno.
The facility offers more than just a roof over heads. Women staying at Naomi's House can stay for up to 90 days, during which they will find a full-sized kitchen and dining area, private showers, and a laundry room at their disposal. The focus is on creating a supportive environment that addresses not only housing needs but also health-related concerns.
Plans for the future of Naomi's House are ambitious. An on-site medical clinic is in the works, aiming to provide healthcare access directly at the facility. Additionally, a community garden is planned, designed to foster wellness, sustainability, and engagement among residents, enhancing their quality of life during the transitional period.
Ivonne Der Torosian, from St. Agnes, emphasises the importance of bridging the gap between housing and safety. Naomi's House is more than just a shelter; it's a safe space where women can rebuild their lives. The goal of Naomi's House at Holy Cross is to end homelessness for women in the community, one woman at a time.
The opening of Naomi's House marks a significant step forward in addressing homelessness in Fresno. With its focus on community health and well-being, the facility is set to make a lasting impact on the lives of the women it serves. As Zack Darrah, the CEO of the Poverello House, said, "Naomi's House is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to support those in need."

At Naomi's House, the focus extends beyond providing mere shelter, integrating science and health-and-wellness services, as plans for an on-site medical clinic are underway. Moreover, the lifestyle of residents is enriched with the addition of a home-and-garden area, designed for community gardening, promoting womens-health, sustainability, and engagement.
