District 1 Dusseldorf: Competition Among Candidates - Regarding Environmental Friendliness towards Insects?

The city of Düsseldorf, located on the Rhine, is hosting the Blossoming District 2025 competition, a gardening event that encourages citizens to showcase their green spaces and contribute to a more sustainable and vibrant neighbourhood.

This competition, which has been a tradition for the Greens of District 1 in Düsseldorf, is open to all, regardless of whether participants have their own garden or balcony. Tree pits have their own separate category and are recommended for sponsorship.

The competition focuses on sustainability and celebrates the beauty of blooming gardens, tree pits, and balconies. The photos should best show the project when the flowers are most beautiful.

Prizes and Participation

Participants can upload up to three photos of their project, each no larger than 6 MB in size as jpegs, and compete for various prizes. The 1st prize is 2 tickets each for the IDO Festival by Dr. Frederike Möller. The 2nd prize is a gift card each from Die Kaffee, while the 3rd prize is a gift card each from Bäcker Schüren. The 4th prize is a gift card each from Blüten & Meer.

Jury and Registration

The jury consists of District Mayor Annette Klinke, Tobias Krause, Björn Korff, Christoph Linke, and the spokespeople of the local group 1 of the Greens in Düsseldorf. More information and registration can be found at www.gruene-stadtmitte.de.

The competition runs until July 15, 2025, and is aimed at citizens in specific districts of Düsseldorf, including Golzheim, Derendorf, Pempelfort, the old town, Carlstadt, and the city center.

The award ceremony in the three categories of garden, balcony, and tree pit will take place on August 2, 2025, at 3 pm. Winners will be notified by email.

Benefits of Green Spaces

Gardens, tree pits, and balconies contribute to reducing summer heat, producing more oxygen, providing habitat for insects and birds, promoting greater biodiversity, and benefiting groundwater. Even the smallest areas can contribute to climate protection if they are cleverly designed and carefully maintained.

Bernadette Niehaus is the initiator of the Blossoming District 2025 competition and political business manager of the Greens Düsseldorf. Sponsors have donated several prizes for the competition.

For those seeking more specific competition details, it is recommended to look for the official website or social media pages of the competition, check local event calendars or news outlets in Düsseldorf, or directly contact the organizers for specific details about participation and jury composition.
