Dementia-Sensitive Service Marks World Alzheimer's Day in Kaufbeuren
A dementia-sensitive service was held at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Kaufbeuren on World Alzheimer's Day. The event, supported by local organizations, aimed to put people first, not the illness.
The service, co-designed by Karin Groeger and Reinhold Netz, offered a protected and respectful setting for those affected by dementia and their families. Familiar hymns and prayers were used to create a sense of closeness and orientation, and each visitor received a personal blessing.
The event was part of a global initiative with the motto 'Dementia - Being Human and Staying Human'. It aimed to highlight the importance of respect, support, and participation for people living with dementia. Although there's no cure, medical accompaniment, professional care, and an understanding environment can greatly improve their quality of life. The AOK Kaufbeuren-Ostallgäu, which offers free caregiving courses for relatives, also supported the event.
The dementia-sensitive service at the Church of the Holy Trinity brought the often invisible illness into focus, strengthening those affected and encouraging open dialogue. It reminded the community that people with dementia deserve respect and support, even without a cure.
